The intended outcome of this symposium is to provide the basis for, and an approach to modifying, institutional processes to reduce inappropriate antipsychotic medication use in acute care hospitals. Learning Objectives: (1) review the impact of antipsychotic medication use on patients and care delivery in the hospitalization and post-hospitalization episode; (2) describe patterns and adverse effects of antipsychotic use during hospitalization; (3) describe consequences associated with in-hospital antipsychotic use on transitions of care; and (4) explore the implementation of an EMR-based clinical decision support tool.
